I think I want to seek out therapy, but....

Hieu Pham, LCSW, Brea Mental Health Therapist Certified EMDR Therapist Orange County Los Angeles County

How do I book an appointment?

First, I want to say thank you for choosing me to be your Therapist to support you manage your anxiety or depression or resolve your trauma!

To book a mental health therapy appointment via telehealth therapy or in person at my office in Brea, CA, simply pick up the phone and dial my number 657-203-2472.

If I do not answer your call immediately, please leave me a message expressing interest in booking an appointment, and allow me up to 24 business hours to respond.

Who do you see?

If you are experiencing anxiety or depression, or struggling to manage stressors due to changes  imposed on you (such as Covid-19 pandemic), or you have difficulty managing reactivity to historical negative experiences, I can help you through this. You are not alone.

If you are a resident of California and are seeking telehealth services, I am accepting clients at this time.

Covid-19 Pandemic has changed the way psychotherapists provide mental health therapy services to our community. I am now providing telehealth therapy services to all residents of California from my office in Brea, CA, to ensure we stay connected and support each other through this public health crisis.

How much will I have to pay?

My rate is $165 for a standard 50-minute mental health therapy session.

I accept payment via Cash, Check, or Credit Card.  FSA or HSA cards are also acceptable forms of payment. Payment is due at the time of session.

Can I use FSA or HSA to pay for therapy?

This is an excellent option to consider if the opportunity is there.

FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) buffers the costs of medical treatment, and mental health therapy is an included service if you are looking to use your pre-tax dollars to help you manage your anxiety, depression, or resolve trauma!

Some employers offer FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account), and the benefit extends to dependents of the employee.  Check with your employer if mental health services, such as telehealth therapy and counseling with a psychotherapist, are included. If so, I can accept your FSA or HSA cards as form of payment.

Will you take my insurance policy?

I am primarily a private-pay practice based out of Brea, CA.

I can provide services as an Out of Network provider. If you have a PPO health insurance plan and are interested in using it to pay for your sessions, I will provide you with a Superbill (i.e. treatment-specific document) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Please understand that I do not guarantee reimbursement, and that you are responsible for paying my full fee at the time of service.

I am paneled with Cigna and accept clients who choose to go through their Cigna insurance.

Please review your insurance policy and confirm your co-payment or deductible for mental health therapy or telehealth therapy prior to session to ensure accuracy in your responsibility for payment.

The telephone number to Cigna Behavioral Health Line is   1 (800) 433-5768.

Each client presenting to me has a unique insurance policy with individualized plans and responsibilities. For that reason, I am unable to confirm your responsibility for payment.

What if I need to cancel our appointment?

My time is reserved for you until I am notified. I respect the time and energy that you have invested into managing your mental health. Please reschedule or cancel therapy sessions, whether they are telehealth  sessions or in person sessions at Brea, CA, as soon as possible via telephone to avoid paying a sitting fee.

24 Hour Cancellation/No Show Policy

When cancellations or reschedules are made within 24 hours of your appointment, or you do not show for you scheduled session, you will be charged the full fee for the session ($165).

Please note: if you are seeing me through your Cigna insurance policy, the fees noted in my cancellation policy will apply and override your co-pay or deductible amount. Insurance companies do not reimburse psychotherapists for a late cancellation or no show to a scheduled mental health therapy  or telehealth therapy appointment. Therefore, if you cancel under 24 hours, you will be charged according to my full fee of $165 as stated above. Thank you for understanding.

Why don't you accept all insurance plans?

Having served clients living  in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties who sought mental health therapy services to manage anxiety and depression, I understand that going through insurance increases access to care. On that same note, I understand that being on various insurance panels may compromise the type of care I can provide.

Barriers that clients and I may encounter when accessing care through insurance panels:

  • Client confidentiality is compromised as my verification of your status in therapy is required for reimbursement.
  • A mental health diagnosis may be necessary to prove "medical necessity" for reimbursement purposes, and that diagnosis will stay on your medical record. In my experience, seeking support to work through life stressors or to resolve historical trauma do not necessitate a mental health diagnosis.
  • Insurance providers can stop reimbursement at any time and request payback of past payments if they deem the claim does not comply with their rules and/or paperwork.
  • Insurance companies normally reimburse psychotherapists at much lower rates (up to 60% less) which makes providing excellent care not sustainable in the long term.

In short: when insurance companies are involved, you and I are not the decision makers of your treatment.
